The search for good information on any new topic is always
time consuming and possibly a waste of money if you don't
choose wisely.  Hopefully sharing this information will save
you some time and a lot of grief.

These recommendations should prove worthy of your time
and money if you are interested in starting a vineyard or
making wine.  All sources listed here are excellent.

  • "From Vines to Wines - Jeff Cox"
  • "The Way to Make Wine - How to Craft Superb Table

Magazines

Michigan State University Extension - Publications

Note: some MSUE publications may be freely downloaded.
Many of them have a large number of color photos that take
a bit of time to download if you don't have high speed
Internet.  Color printing is costly as well.  For the meager cost,
ordering rather than downloading is the recommended
option.

All documents listed below can be found using the
publications link provided.

  • "A Pocket Guide for Grape IPM Scouting in the
North Central and Eastern United States - Updated
    2007 - E2889"
  • "Winter Injury to Grapevines and Methods of
    Protection - E2930"
  • "Table Grape Varieties for Michigan - E2642"
  • "Wine Grape Varieties for Michigan - E2643"
  • "Vineyard Establishment I -Preplant Decisions -
    E2644"
  • "Vineyard Establishment II - Planting and Early Care
    of Vineyards - E2645"
  • Pest Control in Small Vineyards (Grape) - E2698"
  • "Growing Table Grapes in a Temperate Climate -
    E2774"

Michigan State University Extension - DVD's

This DVD comes in English and Spanish.  It's a little costly
for the amount of content.  However, if you know nothing
about pruning grapevines you may want to consider it.  It
may work well for training staff members as well.
